The short answer
The CPHQ exam has no fixed sittings. NAHQ delivers it year-round, either in person at a test centre or online with a live remote proctor, so CPHQ exam dates are dates you choose rather than dates published in advance. You apply, and once you are approved you book a slot that suits your study plan. The practical question is not when the exam is held but which date you should pick.
Why CPHQ exam dates are year-round, not fixed windows
Certifications that run two or three sittings a year force you to fit your life around a published calendar. The CPHQ does not work that way. The exam is offered in person at more than 100 US test centres and at international centres, or online with a live remote proctor, and you select your slot when you schedule. —
That freedom is the thing candidates most often waste. With no external deadline, the date drifts, and a plan without a date is a plan for next year. Book first, then study towards the booking. Every candidate we have taught who passed on the first attempt had a date in the diary before they had finished the first domain.
How to choose a date by working backwards
NAHQ's own guidance is between 20 and 50 hours of preparation, and most candidates already working in healthcare quality report six weeks to three months. Eight weeks is the sensible middle for someone in a clinical post, at five to seven hours a week. Pick your date, then fill the eight weeks backwards from it.

What availability looks like in the region
Centre availability is not uniform. Larger cities generally hold more slots than smaller ones, and remote-proctored appointments open a wider set of times because they are not limited by seats in a room. Beyond that, we will not publish a lead time we have not checked, because these change and a stale number here costs someone a date. —
The safe approach is to look at the scheduling calendar on the day you are approved, not the day you want to sit. If the centre you want has nothing inside your window, take the remote-proctored option rather than pushing the exam back a month, provided you have a room you can genuinely lock for three hours.
Ramadan, Eid and summer: scheduling notes for the region
These are the three things that quietly ruin a study plan across Egypt and the Gulf. —
- Ramadan. Working hours are often shorter, which looks like study time and rarely is. Evening energy goes elsewhere. Plan lighter revision through those weeks and put the heavy domains either side.
- Eid. Travel, family and a week when nothing gets done. Do not schedule an exam in the days immediately after either Eid, and do not schedule a mock there either.
- Summer. Annual leave thins the department and the people covering you have no capacity. Some candidates use leave for a final revision block, which works well; others find leave is the first thing cancelled when the rota tightens.
- Your own reporting calendar. Accreditation surveys, licensing renewals and KPI submissions are known months ahead. Book around them, not into them.
Rescheduling windows and fees
Plans change, and moving a date is normal. What matters is the notice period: there is usually a window in which a change is free or cheap and a shorter one in which it is expensive or impossible, and missing the appointment without notice is the worst outcome of all. Check the current terms before you book rather than after you need them. —
One practical habit: put the last free-reschedule date in your calendar the same hour you book the exam. That is the day you decide honestly whether the plan is on track, and it is much easier to move a date a month out than a week out. Retake timing if the first attempt does not go your way
NAHQ does not publish a pass rate, so nobody can tell you the odds, and anyone quoting one is guessing. What matters if it happens is that there is a defined waiting period before you can sit again, and a fee. —
Use the wait rather than resenting it. The scaled score report shows performance by domain, which tells you where the marks went. Two or three weeks of targeted work on the weakest two domains is worth more than starting the whole syllabus again.
When results arrive
The exam is 140 questions, 125 of them scored and 15 unscored pretest items, with a maximum of three hours. It is scored on a scale of 200 to 800, and 600 is the pass mark. Because the pass mark is a scaled score rather than a raw percentage, you cannot work out your result from a count of questions you were unsure about. —
Certification then runs on a two-year cycle, renewed through continuing education, so the date you sit also sets your first recertification deadline. —
